Trashcat 'Living in the City' | Dirtbird Records
Trashcat proudly announce their eagerly awaited second
album 'Living in the City'. Recorded in a series of sessions over the last
year, and full of the catchy hooks and big choruses which fans will expect, this album
further explores Trashcat's lust for the sleazier side of London life.
Trashcat is the brainchild of Darragh, previously known to thousands of punk rockers worldwide as the Restarts' drummer. Darragh took a gamble on his new project. The catchy punk rock'n'roll of Trashcat was a massive change in direction from the shouty political angst of the Restarts. He took over guitar duties, enlisting Restarts' guitarist Robin to play drums (soon after replaced by Pete from the Extinguishers) and Goz (a renowned Hackney punk musician) on bass.
The gamble paid off, and Trashcat's 2008 debut CD 'Too Much Aint Enough' was an instant hit with the old Restarts crowd, but also attracted a whole new following from the wider punk rock and alternative scene.
Six months on, having played their first European show at the Kopi in Berlin and Rebellion festival in the UK, Darragh got a double blow with the sudden departure of both drummer and bass player. The future of Trashcat hung in the balance. Enter bass bombshell Carly at a chance meeting in a Hackney bar. Impressed with Carly's drinking skills, ability to embrace mayhem and sultry good looks, Darragh was excited to hear she also played bass.
Discovering an immediate chemistry, they headed out on tour
with some notable stand in drummers (including Jamie Oliver of UK Subs). Their first
trailblazing tour saw Trashcat on an all-out booze binge endurance test across Belgium, Holland and Germany.
Finally living up to their name, the band experienced a catalogue of bizarre events, including drunk punks in wheelchairs in a duelling demolition derby; Russian roulette involving black slime, six guns and a golden vibrator; ransacked apartments, a trail of blood stained sheets and a sangria-crazed karaoke debacle...
Eventually finding a committed drummer in the form of Alex, they continued to play in the UK and Europe and began work on their second album. With a CD release planned for May 7 in London with old friends the Restarts, Trashcat will be taking the new songs on the road in May.
